CAS Golf Championship: Tahir, Jehangir enter final day as leaders

Three golfers in contention for title as event gears up for exciting finish.

Mohammad Tahir and Adil Jehangir secured joint first position at end of the third round of the Chief of Air Staff (CAS) Open Golf Championship, underway here at the Airmen Golf Course, PAF Base Korangi Creek.


On Friday, Tahir who leapfrogged to the top spot after the second round with a gross of 140 (four under par) had a tough third round as he managed two over-par 74 on the penultimate day of the competition.

However, his gross score of 214 (two under par) was enough to keep him at the top along with Jehangir, who made a giant leap to come in contention for the title. Jehangir also has honour to shot hole-in-one, earlier in the competition.

Mohammad Shabbir, who has so far displayed a consistent show in the event, is one shot behind the leaders with 215 (one under par) and will return to the final round with triumph in sights.

Ghanzanfar wins amateur title


Meanwhile, Ghazanfar Mehmood overcame opponents to win the amateur competition of the championship.

Waseem Rana stood second while Zohaib Asif ended third in the event.

The amateur net competition was claimed by Yasir Khokar while Taimur Khan and Shahbaz secured second and third positions respectively.

Aania Farooq annexed the ladies event and was followed by Luan XI who ended up as second.

Elsewhere, Murtaza Qasim won the veterans event with Commander I Khokar claiming second position while Col Shahid finished third.

Brigadier Hasan Rafi reigned supreme in the veterans net after finishing ahead of Sultan Mehmood and M.Y Changaizi.

A total of around 300 golfers including 113 professional golfers from all over the country have taken part in the Rs3 million CAS championship that will conclude with the final round today.
