Abdullahpur underpass: C&W secy reviews progress, sets deadline

Rs1.10 billion project is scheduled to be completed by Feb 28.

Officers overseeing the construction of the Abdullapur Chowk underpass were on Wednesday told, by the Communication and Works secretary, to set deadlines for completing various phases of the project so it can be completed on time.


Major (Retired) Azam Suleman told the officers to complete the channels, beds and retaining walls of the underpass by February 17. He directed that the back of the retaining walls also be filled with earth by then so that the underpass can be completed by February 28.

Suleman issued the instruction during a visit to the site of the project that will be completed at a cost of Rs1.10 billion.

The C&W secretary reviewed the quality of the construction work and directed the officers concerned to complete the project within the stipulated time.


That, he said, was a “big challenge” that would require all out efforts from all those involved with the project. He warned officials against compromising on quality and timely completion of the project.

The secretary reviewed the layout plan and enquired about the land that was acquired for the project. Suleman directed that the land owners be given adequate compensation.

He told police officials to provide alternative routes for traffic, adding that they be kept clear to facilitate the public. He directed that the canal bridge be opened for traffic immediately.

The secretary was briefed by the NLC, NESPAK, Highways, WASA, FESCO and Irrigation department about the shifting of utility services.

Divisional Commissioner Tahir Hussain and DCO Muhammad Amin Chaudhry assured the secretary that they were reviewing the progress of the project regularly.
