LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan categorically rejected Asma Jahangir’s name for the post of caretaker prime minister, claiming that she carried conflicted views about the Supreme Court and enjoyed political attachment with the ruling government.

Imran, addressing a press conference in Lahore on Monday, maintained that the caretaker prime minister should be an impartial and honest person who respects the apex court.

“The candidate must be impartial, honest and should pay due respect to the SC and should avoid inking any agreement on which the successive government would face embarrassment,” he said, adding that only free and fair elections can save the country from any future debacle.

Imran claimed that Jahangir had political affiliations with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and has issued statements against the PTI as well. He declared her nomination for the post of caretaker PM as an “agreed game” between the PPP and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N).

“Jahangir’s nomination is tantamount to the fact that the government is not sincere in holding free and fair elections and if government elevates her, PTI would hold the biggest protest in the country’s history over nomination of an impartial person,” Imran stated.
