The reports published in Indian newspapers said the test was conducted from an underwater pontoon in the Bay of Bengal. The reports mentioned contradictory figures about the range of the missile. According to Times of India the missile has a “strike range of around 1500 kilometres.” However, The Hindu reported that the missile has a “full range of 700 kilometres.” The missile is part of a group of missiles being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO), the reports said.
