Citizens of pakistan?: Tribesmen not issued CNICs
Ahmadzai Kochi tribesmen have asked the government to issue Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) to them.
PESHAWAR:
Ahmadzai Kochi tribesmen have asked the government to issue Computerised National Identity Cards (CNIC) to them, threatening to go to the Peshawar High Court if they do not receive their CNIC. Chief of the Kochi tribe, Haji Inayat Kochi said as they have no CNIC they cannot transfer their lands and property on their names and have to purchase them on someone else’s CNIC. According to Inayat, the other two sub tribes of Kochi tribe, Akka Khel and Sulemankhel were given CNICs but they were not. Moreover, he said, in 2007, NADRA gave 2,000 CNICs to tribesmen belonging to Ahmadzai while 50,000 tribesmen were left. “Majority of the people are traders but as they have no CNIC they are unable to open bank accounts by their names or apply for passports,” he said, adding that because of this they cannot even perform Hajj or Umrah.
