ISLAMABAD:

A politician and the head of a police station were among four people booked on Friday for the kidnapping of an Islamabad-based property dealer. The Ramna police registered a case against former Daska Tehsil naib nazim Chuadhry Muhammad Arshad, and Rawat police SHO Malik Yousaf, Sub Inspector Riaz Bajwa and Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Liquat Ali for kidnapping Muhammad Aslam from G-11 Markaz.

The case was filed after Aslam’s younger brother Arshad Ali, a resident of Sector G-11, submitted an application in which he accused Muhammad Arshad and two Punjab police officials of kidnapping his brother.

Ali told The Express Tribune that on January 4, his brother was going to his office when the trio picked him up and demanded a ransom of Rs2.5 million. He claimed that in 2012, his brother had a dispute with Arshad which was resolved by an Islamabad SP. However on January 4, Aslam was kidnapped with the help of two Punjab police officials while he was going to his office in his Suzuki Mehran (NA-355). “On January 5, I received a call from Arshad demanding Rs2.5 million as ransom,” Ali said. He claimed that the family arranged the amount, but the kidnappers still refused to hand him over.

Ali alleged that the Punjab police kept Aslam in their custody and tortured him before registering a fake case against him. Aslam got bail from a Rawalpindi court on January 7.

Investigation Officer Munir Jafferi confirmed that Arshad was arrested from Blue Area on Saturday and sent on four-day physical remand by a court. He said that remaining suspects would be arrested soon.
