ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to allot Tarazoo (scale) to Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) as party symbol for the upcoming general elections, Express News reported on Thursday.

The decision was taken during an ECP meeting today, headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim.

JI and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had formally applied to the commission last year in a bid to reserve Tarazoo as election symbol.

The ECP had heard arguments from both sides before reserving its judgement.

The commission has suggested “torch” and “hill” as alternate symbols to the PTI.
