Connecting ‘Upeshians’: UoP gets its very own social network

The website and alumni association will enable contact among students and their families.

VC highlighted that in a cyber age where email, Facebook and chat rooms keep people connected, alumni association will serve as the university’s very own social network.

To enable contact with current students and alumni, the University of Peshawar (UoP) has launched a broad base alumni association and a website wherein the students can register for courses online.

The Peshawar University Alumni Association (PUAA) would serve as a forum for the students at all constituent colleges and institutions of the varsity, said a press release issued by the university on Wednesday.

UoP Vice Chancellor (VC) Qibla Ayaz was the chief guest at the launching ceremony. “The association is an initiative to interact with family members of university students and through deliberation with senior faculty members, the most appropriate title that came up for addressing the alumni was Upeshians,” he said.

He further said the formal membership process for the alumni would start from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar, who happens to be an UoP alum and faculty member at the Law College University of Peshawar.

The VC said that he would appreciate if more and more former students register at the website at www.upesh.edu.pk/alumni. He highlighted that in a cyber age where email, Facebook and chat rooms keep people connected, the alumni association will serve as the university’s very own social network.

PUAA Coordinator Syed Hussain Shaheed Soherwordi gave a detailed presentation about the association. The ceremony was attended by Registrar Dr Syed Fazli Hadi, Deans Prof Dr Muhammad Riaz, Dr Amir Nawaz Khan, Prof Abdul Qayyum, Prof Naeemur Rehman Khattak and officers of the university.
