FAISALABAD: Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) will standardise water supply connections to discourage defaulters, Wasa Managing Director Syed Zahid Aziz said on Wednesday. During a meeting with senior officials, the MD said that the new strategy was being planned in collaboration with the French government. He said a valve fitted to the water supply connections of Wasa consumers would allow the agency to stop supply of potable water to the consumer in case of non-payment of bills. This will also solve problems of water mixing and leakage, he said. Once locked, he said, the valve would only be opened by Wasa officials on payment of bills. Aziz said new water connections in Faisalabad were being provided against a deposit of Rs2,000. He said the valves were being tested on new connection and will be installed on old connections, later.
