KARACHI: The two-day annual inspection of the district courts started on Wednesday by district and sessions judge, Malir, Muhammad Yamin, who also examined the court records. During the inspection, the judge visited courts of judicial magistrates, senior civil judges and family judges.

“Tomorrow is the day of accountability and we are making sure that everything is in order,” said a staff member while moving files from court room to the office. “It reminds me of the old school days when the headmaster along with a team used to come and inspect our work,” he chuckled.

Judge Yamin inspected the pending cases - which stood at 6,612 till December, 2012 - registers and daily records of the courts. The highest number of pending cases, 4,609, from the total are from the criminal court. He directed to conclude all the cases dated before the year 2008.

The Annual confidential report of judges and staff is made through such inspections every year. Promotions, or if necessary stagnation orders, are passed on the basis of their annual progress, said a reader at the court.

Court proceedings were not affected as we have been conducting inspections in two courts each day, said the personal assistant to the judge, Zubair Mehmood. He added that the courts proceedings ran normally and the scheduled hearings were resumed after the inspection.

Mehmood told The Express Tribune that the judges were directed to conclude the cases according to the National Judicial Policy at the earliest. He said that a summary of the report would be sent to the Sindh High Court once the process was over. The inspection of courts will also be carried out on Thursday (today).
