FAISALABAD:

Police on Tuesday claimed to have killed a proclaimed offender and his two accomplices in what they called an encounter with the criminals in Jhang.

The shootout occurred in Satellite Town. Police said they were informed about three men who were fleeing after robbing a house. They said a police team chased them and caught them near Sufi Mor on Faisalabad Road bypass.

The men on the motorcycles shot at the police and the police shot back, killing the three men on the spot. They were later identified as Ramazan alias Ramazani Baloch, Zafar Baloch and Amanullah Sialvi. Police said Ramazan was a proclaimed offender wanted in several cases of murder and robbery. They said they recovered weapons from the bodies.

They said three weeks ago Ramazan had shot dead three policemen when a police team had raided a house in Chak 175-JB in Mochiwala on a tip-off.

They said the police had fixed Rs1 million head money on Ramazan.

They said when the police raided the house, people from the neighbouring houses hindered the raid. They pelted the police with stones, while Ramazan and his accomplices shot at the police, killing three of them at the spot. One of Ramazan’s accomplices was also killed in the shooting.

He was later identified as Muhammad Ilyas. The rest fled.

The deceased policemen were identified as Head Constable Abdur Razzaq, Head Constable Khuda Bukhsh and Constable Liaqat Ali.
