Speaking to the media, the CEC said that the voters will be given the right to vote as per their will. He maintained that free elections are crucial for Pakistan’s security and survival.
He added that the finalisation of voters list will be completed on time and the election commission officials will even work on off days to get it done.
Regarding security arrangements during the elections, the CEC said that he has talked to the Corps Commander on the issue.
Ebrahim had earlier also stated that the delimitation of constituencies in Karachi was not possible as all political parties had not given their proposals on the issue. He had said that the constituencies had been carved out accordingly following the 1998 census and as such should not be changed for now. He maintained that without a fresh census, delimitation of constituencies would be pointless.

@BA: I live in Lahore for your information. Lahore is a capital of Punjab and anyone living in Lahore is a Lahori but this does not mean we are not Punjabi as anyone living in Upper Punjab is a Punjabi and if someone dont like it then they are free to leave Lahore as well. But on the contrary i have met many people from Karachi and they despise the Sindhi speakers and Karachite in Sindh is basically used to just despise the Sindhi population and nothing else in my observation.
@Jinnah: Go to court then..
Here you go that's what MQM has said, I don't know why this country men just want to oppose and bash MQM what ever it is, I hope one day sanity prevails in this country.
Good. Delimitation without census was just an opportunist stunt by some political parties. Well done EC and MQM
Going by the impression created around the country you'd think as if Karachi and Sindh were separate from each other :\
Common sense prevails and opportunistic parties get a set back. Delimitation without census and that too only in Karachi was unconstitutional and unfair. Good work EC and MQM.
@Shaami: The same difference between a Lahori and a Punjabi
sir unfortunate every one can not be like chief justice chaudhary to make people like you happy by targetingarties you don't like you want another revenge man but thankfully people like CJ chaudhary don't come top often@us:
Ha ! Major victory for MQM !
A righteous decision a sigh of hope for free and fair elections in Karachi Bravo to the ECP and Election Commissioner.
@imran: 110% agreed!! You can't expect for any good from this country and the DEMOCRACY they keep selling at traffic signals. Hopeless Pakistani
The MQM's demand for census before delimitation was common sense and logical. But then very few people talk sense. So, once again the MQM rides away into the sunset with the heroine.

Mr. Ibrahim is right. CEC staff is working on weekends. They came to our house on Sunday. There were no army personnel with them though. When asked where they were he said that the army says many things but does nothing.
Fakhru today's remarks prove that "Honesty does not necessarily means competency." MQM bargained with the government for no delimitation and no voter-verification under Army in return they quit Long March !!!!
Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim is a man of integrity and commands respect, so his decision needs to be accepted, especially when it concerns his jurisdiction and is based on sound grounds: meaningful delimitation can only follow a fresh population census.
Karachi
@Patriot: What is a difference in Karachite and a Sindhi. Kindly explain?

Truth prevailed.... MQM took a valid stance which is now further justified.....
Some people will be really unhappy :P
Good decision.which will help in uniting Karachi with the rest of country.
