SHABQADAR/ LANDI KOTAL: Three paramilitary officials were killed and another 10 persons injured in separate targeted attacks on Monday.

Two paramilitary officials were killed, while nine others including peace militia volunteers were injured in a remote controlled blast in Mohmand Agency.

Political administration official Lower Mohmand Fahad Wazir said an improvised explosive device was used in the blast which took place in Dawizai area of Pandialy tehsil during a search operation by paramilitary troops.

The injured paramilitary officials were shifted to Combined Military Hospital Peshawar via helicopter, while the four peace militia volunteers were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital.

A security official who is not authorised to speak to the media said some of the injured were in critical condition. He added the deceased have been identified as Naik Adil Muhammad and Ziaullah, and the injured as Shams, Aurangzeb, Nisar, Wahed Khan and Amroz Khan. The injured volunteers are Javed Khan, Misri Khan, Irfan and Wali Khan.

Dawizai is about 50 kilometres north of Ghallanai and still remains a stronghold of militant outfits even after security forces declared it ‘clear’ in 2011 following an operation titled ‘Brekhna’ (lightning).

In a separate incident, an official of Khyber Rifles was shot dead and another was injured when unidentified militants opened fire at them on the outskirts of Tirah valley.

Political administration official Shahid Afridi said the incident took place at around 8am when the two men went to fetch water from Shamoro Cheena. Ibrahim was killed on the spot while Junaid was injured.

Security forces rushed to the site and launched a search operation, however, no arrests have yet been made. The two officials, hailing from Mardan, were shifted to Landi Kotal Headquarters Hospital where the injured was stated to be in stable condition.
