Balochistan unrest: Frontier Corps cracks police kidnapping racket
Three senior officers among 13 rounded up in a raid.

At least 13 police personnel, including three senior officers – a superintendent and two DSPs of the Crime Investigation Department (CID) – were arrested for their alleged involvement in kidnapping for ransom cases by the Frontier Corps (FC).
During the raid, FC officials recovered a person named Abdul Qudoos who was kidnapped from Dalbandin, and the police officers who were involved in his kidnapping.
The accused police officers contacted the family of the abducted person and demanded a ransom of Rs5 million. In a retaliatory move, the police registered a counter case against a senior FC official accusing him of ransacking the CID office during the raid.
According to sources, the family members of abducted Abdul Qudoos were contacted by kidnappers for ransom and a person named Hussain had come to take the money when he was arrested by the FC. The family members of the kidnapped man had informed the paramilitary unit about the incident.
As the FC arrested the CID DSP Kutub Khan for the kidnapping, he confessed to his crime and informed FC that officials named Tariq Manzoor and Bilal were also involved in the racket.
Upon this, FC raided the office of CID in Kojak Road, arrested the police personnel and recovered the ransom money along with the abducted person.
Meanwhile, CID rejected FC’s allegations, saying Abdul Qadoos was arrested in Hazar Ganji along with 60 kg hashish and 20 kg opium and an FIR (number 3.2013) was registered against him in the CID police station the day before yesterday.
They said there was no FIR registered in Dalbandin police station of Qadoos’ kidnapping, adding that the raid conducted by FC was unjustified that harassed policemen. They also ransacked CID police office.
CID DIG Feroz Shah said that we had sent an application in the Bijli Ghar police station for the case to be registered against Major Nadeem and other personnel of FC and once an inquiry is complete, action will follow against the Frontier Corps.
Meanwhile, FC said that the targeted operation of criminal groups would be continued without any discrimination.
Following imposition of governor’s rule in Balochistan, FC was delegated police powers and a free hand in view of increasing law and order incidents in the province. Following this, FC has started raids in different parts of Quetta and arrested dozens of accused persons.
