PESHAWAR:
Police have started investigating the attack on Additional Sessions Judge Ihtisham Ali.

On Saturday, Ali was in his car when unidentified assailants opened fired at his vehicle, near his house in Hayatabad. He is currently under treatment at the Hayatabad Medical Complex.

A large-scale crackdown against unregistered motorcycles in Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera has also been launched. This decision was taken after initial investigations revealed that Ali’s shooters were riding a Honda 125 motorbike.

“CCPO Imtiaz Altaf has ordered a crackdown against unregistered motorcycles,” said a police official.

“As of now we know that pistols were used in the attack and the culprits fled on a bike,” said another officer at the Hayatabad police station, speculating that it was a case of sectarian violence as the judge is Shia.

However, police said that important clues are still missing. “We know there is sectarian violence across the country from Peshawar to Quetta and Karachi, but in this particular case we are clueless about the attackers,” he said.

Ali is the son of former PHC chief justice Ibn-e-Ali. In the past few months, there have been multiple incidents of sectarian violence, including the killing of SSP Hilal Haider and PPP’s president for Kurram Agency Dr Riaz Hussain.
