US only supports democratic government in Pakistan: Olson
US Ambassador to Pakistan says his country did not support any specific political party or person.
ISLAMABAD:
The US supports democratic government in Pakistan rather than any particular individual, US Ambassador to Pakistan Richard Olson said on Friday.
According to Radio Pakistan, Olson said the US did not support any specific political party or person‚ including Tahirul Qadri.
He further said that the US would like to see free and fair elections in Pakistan.
Speaking to media in Islamabad, Olson also commented on recent Line of Control conflict between Pakistan and India. He said the two countries need to work together for peace in the region and the ceasefire agreement along the LoC is encouraging.
Earlier‚ the US envoy met more than one hundred Pakistani students who have studied in the United States recently.
He said the US is working on a comprehensive education programme for the promotion of education in Pakistan.
