FAISALABAD:

The Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco) is in the process of purchasing new electricity meters to discourage power pilferage through old and depreciated meters, Fesco Chief Executive Officer Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan said on Wednesday.

He was presiding over a review meeting at the company’s headquarters.

The meeting participants were told that the step was being taken to improve arrangements that would discourage power theft. This, he said, was part of the company’s anti power theft campaign.

Old and defective meters will be replaced with new and modern ones, he said.

“The data on the meter screens will disappear if some body tried to tamper with the reading,” he said.

Special task forces constituted by the Ministry of Water and Power were already raiding the region to detect power thefts, he added.

“Sub divisional officers and field staff should come out of their cozy offices and achieve set targets.”

He said officials had already been warned about disciplinary actions against them if found involved in power theft or over billing.

Praising the Madina Town SDO Sajjad Hussain and Sargodha Road SDO Nauman Farzand for their “excellent performance”, the Fesco chief said efforts of these competent officers will not go in vain. He also issued them commendation certificates.

However, the Mansoorabad and Chiniot sub divisional officers were issued warning for poor performance and told to improve.

The chief directed the officials concerned to supply 700 electricity meters to the Chiniot division.

He ordered the sub divisional officers to personally visit the complaint centres in their areas and monitor replacement of defective meters and installation of fuses on transformers.
