Fishing: 31 poachers arrested

The provincial and district teams constituted on the special directive of the chief minister arrested 31 poachers across the province for fish netting. Director General, Fisheries Department Director General Muhammad Ashraf said on Sunday that the government had banned netting of all species of fish without a permit from public waters throughout the province.



Those violating the order are being awarded six months rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs5,000 by the trial courts besides seizure of their catch and nets. He said several raiding teams each headed by the assistant director, inspectors and supervisors would continue to conduct raids and take strict action against those caught netting fish illegally. Ashraf said deputy directors had also been instructed to conduct surprise raids especially to the river and lake areas.
