Political Rivalry?: ANP leader survives bomb attack

At least one person was killed and 13 injured, including Awami National Party (ANP) leader Bashir Khan Umarzai, in a remote-controlled bomb attack on Saturday.
Bashir Khan, a former provincial minister, was returning from a court hearing when unidentified men detonated a bomb on a bridge, 15 kilometres away from Charsadda. The explosion was followed by heavy gunfire, police officials said.
The ANP leader twice defeated Alamzeb Umarzai of Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao’s Qaumi Watan Party in provincial elections. The wins sparked rivalry between the two resulting in the murder of Alamzeb in April 2010 and a case being registered against Bashir Khan. Currently, a local court is hearing the case.
Bashir Khan’s son, who was also injured in the blast, registered an FIR against the brothers of Alamzeb Khan.
