KARACHI:

A diagnosis report of the blood and liver samples of the six deer from Karachi Zoo, who died from an unknown illness a few days ago, is expected on Monday.

“We have already formed a panel of experts to look into the matter,” said the corporation’s administer, Muhammad Hussain Syed. “The cause of their death can only be determined after reviewing the laboratory reports,” he added.

The dead deer include four white fallow deer and a hog deer. “It was some sort of an infection that crippled the hind legs of these animals,” said Syed. Two other deer, which are sick, are currently receiving treatment. According to officials, the zoo administration does not have an expert veterinary doctor. “Even the young doctors they have are underpaid,” said an official. “No zoo in the world can survive without a proper and permanent staff.”
