Hiking fun: New trail near Faisal mosque inaugurated

Special features include a track for mountain bikes.

The trail, which passes through Kavani Valley and touches Chak Jabbi on the hilltop, was inaugurated by Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira.

ISLAMABAD:
Hiking enthusiasts have a new option for a climb in the Margalla Hills. A hiking trail with exclusive features was inaugurated on Friday at a ceremony organised by the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

Trail 6 has a track for mountain bikes, a smooth surface for the first half of the four-kilometre hike and a bird watching point. There are also sit-out areas beside the track for hikers to catch their breath.

Speaking on the occasion, Kaira said CDA should take concrete measures to make Islamabad a model city. “People should identify and isolate the extremist mindset to eliminate terrorism,” he said. A fresh wave of terrorism had begun as the elections were nearing to delay the polls, Kaira added.

CDA Chairman Tahir Shahbaz said the project’s expenses had been borne by private partners, including the Himalayan Wildlife Foundation.

An information centre had also been set up where visitors can get

information regarding the trail as well as flora and fauna in the Margalla Hills, he added. “CDA would also upgrade the other five trails with assistance from private partners.”
