Army’s medal chances dealt severe blow
NBP shock forces side 1-0 in football league.
KARACHI:
Army’s chances of finishing second in the Pakistan Premier Football League were dealt a critical blow when they were shocked 1-0 by NBP in Karachi yesterday.
Army needed to win in order to overtake KESC and Muslim FC but Mohammad Asif’s 40th-minute goal left them in fourth with just the final round of matches remaining. Army’s cause was not helped with a red card shown to Shakeel Ahmed in the 61st minute. NBP, meanwhile, stay in sixth.
In the other match of the day, KPT and Wapda played out a 1-1 draw in Karachi.
Wapda’s Muhammad Rizwan scored the opening goal of the match in the 31st minute which was equalised by Ghulam Raza in the 47th. With the result, Wapda moved into 11th while KPT stayed in 13th. Both teams have one match remaining.
Navy will take on Afghan FC in Karachi today.
