Missing persons: Parliamentary committee issues 15 recommendations

Committee recommends intelligence agencies should work under parliament’s supervision and follow the law.

Committee recommends law enforcement agencies should arrest a suspect without violating the laws and basic rights.

ISLAMABAD:
The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) issued 15 recommendations pertaining to missing persons’ on Tuesday.

Among the recommendations issued, they suggested that intelligence agencies should work under a supervisory committee of the parliament and follow the law.

The committee further recommended that law enforcement agencies should arrest a suspect without violating the laws and their basic rights enshrined in the Constitution.


Those found guilty of not following the legal procedure should be investigated, the recommendations stated.

The PCNS also asked the parliament and the court to play their due role in addressing the missing persons issue. It further called for establishing of special benches to hear such cases.

The committee further stated that a suspect, when arrested, should be informed about charges brought against him/her within 24 hours.
