The police intervened to rescue a woman here at the Sessions Court on Monday from relatives angry that she had wed without their consent.



Azmat Bibi was leaving the court after testifying that she had married Muhammad Zeeshan by choice and not been abducted when she was grabbed by four male and two female relatives, including her mother Fatima.

They threatened her and tried to take her with them, while Zeeshan tried to protect her. Islampura police officials who had turned up earlier when Zeeshan, having spotted his angry in-laws, made a call to 15 – stepped in and escorted the couple away from Azmat’s family.

Hadyara police had registered an abduction and theft case against Zeeshan on a complaint filed by her parents. Zeeshan filed a pre-arrest bail application. The couple were in court on Monday for its hearing.
