Food security: UAF develops new variety of Sarson

In a bid to arrest the rising import bill of Rs240 billion for edible oil, scientists of University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) developed UAF-11 Desi Sarson Line with a potential yield of 40 to 45 maunds per acre which is about five-time more than the traditional Sarson with eight maund average production.
UAF spokesperson Qamar Bukhari said on Monday that the department of Plant Breeding and Genetics (PBG) is going to hold a Farmers’ Convention on January 8, 2013 (Tuesday) at 10 am in Farmers’ Syndicate Hall of the university.
