According to Pakistan military, Indian troops crossed the de facto border on Sunday in the Haji Pir Sector and stormed a military check post killing one soldier and injuring another.
The Foreign Office said that it summoned a senior Indian diplomat to hand over a ‘protest note on the unprovoked Indian attack’.
“The Indian Government was strongly urged to take appropriate measures to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future,” said a foreign office statement after the Indian Deputy High Commissioner was called to the ministry.
An Indian army spokesman in Srinagar denied the incident and said that its troops did not cross the LoC.
Colonel Brijesh Pandey accused the Pakistani military of firing mortar shells into a village in the Uri district, which faces Haji Pir in Azad Kashmir.
“At 3:15am today, Pakistani troops resorted to heavy mortar firing, targeting a village in Uri sector,” Pandey told AFP, adding that the homes of some villagers were damaged. “We retaliated with small arms and the exchange continued for over an hour,” the spokesman said.
He said no Indian troops were hurt but had no information about any Pakistani casualties.
Pakistan and India have fought wars over the disputed region of Kashmir. But relations between the two countries have improved in recent years with the nuclear-armed neighbours seeking to resolve their issues through peaceful means.
There has been a ceasefire at the LoC since 2003, but there were more than 75 ceasefire violations along the LoC in 2012, resulting in the death of eight people. Most of the violations were exchanges of fire between the two sides.

our political system is a failure. even our pak government is not capable of controlling the army. there is a chance that some terrorists in army fired against india. nobody know what happens in the army and who is the culprit.
@Tony Singh remember what happened in 1948..Consider Operation Gibraltar as a retaliation to that.
@PaKhtoon: Well it is state polices duty to protect people during peace time. i dont know why our Army would be invvoled unless it is a Pakistani or some enemy , as for atrocities aganist Indian we are fighting for their rights as you would know we dont train Rapist nor do we call assests of the state, i hope you can see difference
@Bihari Kebab: ever heard of "operation Gibraltor" launched by Pakistan in 1965? Cpnsider 1971 as a retaliation to that.
@J.Sandhu: The other side feels darkness is a necessity- for pushing terrorists into India and because they have a huge shortage of electricity.
if you look at phtographs of the border, you may observe, that there are lights only on one side of it. It appears one side does not feel lights are necessary.
@zeeshan sheikh:
Go ahead and try.
@Vikas: And you of course have proof of this, right?
@True Indian: Go ahead and do it. Try and wipe out Pakistan. C'mon, what are you waiting for? Should be named "Truly Delusional Indian."
@B:Just like India cannot fight the Maoists, United Liberation Front of Assam, Naxalites, Peoples United Liberation Front, Gorkha Janamukti Morcha, National Socialist Council of Nagaland, National Liberation Front of Tripura, and Peoples Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak just to name a few of the better known groups fighting for liberation from Indian occupation, and leaving barely 50% of of the terriroty in Indian government control. That is why Indian Army has to attack Pakistan to justify its existence, as it has nothing to show for the wars it is losing within its putative borders.
@Bihari Kebab by that means east pakistan was a hoax right ?,never a part of pak
@Polpot: What an apt name for occupiers of Kashmir! Kargil would have never happened if India had not invaded Kashmir in the first place. Correct your acts, before complaiing about Pakistani reaction.
@MK: In 1947 India tried to wipe out Pakistan. In 1965 India tried to wipe out Pakistan. In 1971 India tried to wipr out Pakistan. Yet Pakistan is still here. Chew on that fact for a while!
@BruteForce: Then you must be blind.
@Harshvardhan sharma: Yeah victory is easy when hiding behind a super power. Pakistan defeated the same super power in Afghanistan, imagine what we will do to you.
@Harshvardhan sharma: i remember 1965 and i also remember sri lanka and maldives and recently china raped u guys..i remember they took ur 2 posts which u were claiming n yelling that u were gods n u took it frm china n bla bla...i remember u asked them to please hava dialogue n asked them to give them back n they rejected ur offer...wanna knw more i can open a whole fkn history book for u guys..dont be freakin bottom gays...noobs.
So, India has finally decided to expose Pakistan's nuclear myth?
Why are we always fight for land, Its time to fight against poverty and illiteracy. If Pak man was killed by Indian Army then it is so bad they and if not what will they earn from it Just live as the neighbor not as enemy. Please don't talk about the use of Nuclear arm who ever killed in this, definitively human being will pay for it.
Protesting is not enough. Pakistan needs to take concrete retaliatory action.
@Zaid Hamid: We indians did only what you have been doing since decades into our terittory. Now as far as question of POW is concerned.. we'd be glad to acheive martydom to finish the last remenants of pakistan. Glad that you would not stop at capturing us alive and making our work easier ;-).
@Mumbai 2008: If wishes were horses.................!! Dream on
Yeah, we beat them in Cricket. They had to vent their frustration somewhere.
Pakistanis were trying to infiltrate under the cover fire by Pakistani army. India retaliated. So what's wrong they did?
@Ali: We've seen ur nuclear weapons...we are just waiting for u to use them....so that then we can we can finally remove the tumor from this world....
what about 1000s of such unprovoked firing from paki side? where are these pakis then?? it may be taliban and blaming India as usual
@1984:
That's typical insecure bully mentality on their part.
@Ashvin: Can I ask you to deploy your army to protect girls from Rape which is happening every 20 minutes in India.....
@QAS: Well said , in the year 2013 pakistan army and its brave solider are beheaded by Taliban , it so dearly trained and nurtured, now indian army ain't capable of such things
We will take back Kashmir and East Pakistan you are right this is 2013 Pakistan has one of the worlds top 10 armys and also Nuke stock pile so bring it on! We might even invade you along with China!
@zeeshan sheikh: Strange isnt it??
When India kept complaining about the cross-border fire from Pakistan,You Pakistanis were teasing us of being cry babies.....
But when they decided to take matters in their hands,suddenly you start whining!!!!
@QAS:
"this is 2013 !"
which only means that this time it will be three parts including balochistan and kpk...
Now pakistani military will think twice before pushing terrorists.Enough is enough
@Harshvardhan sharma. this is 2013 !
Surprise, surprise.They cannot even fight the terrorists in their country and are going to teach India a lesson.What next will they come up with.
Looking at the picture, it's such a beautiful scenery. It's a shame the checkposts have ruined it though...
It is amusing to watch the perpetrators of Kargil protest soo much with injured innocence +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
@Zaid Hamid: Good plan but goes wrong, remember the 93,000 Pakistani troops India took as P.O.W's in the 1971 war. No ifs and but, fact is fact. If you are not aware of it, google it.
The lights are from the Indian side and the fence is built by India. That means India has NOTHING to do with Pakistan and wants to keep intruders out.
The elections are near in Pakistan and there was probably a LeT or a JeM Terrorist trained in Pakistan sneaking in and the Pakistanis gave him cover fire. This obviously must have made the Indian side retaliate by employing greater fire power.
I don't see ANY reason why the Indian side fire without any provocation.
@ZeeshanHumayun sheikh u trying to teach lesson and I remember 1971 and 90000 prisoners
They have started the war.. we will finish it without taking any prisoners.
Why only protest. kill those indians who killed Pakistani soldiers it will teach them a lesson
Is it possible that Indians saw Dawood Ibrahim hiding in that check post and attacked it?
