14,000 police deployed
Police have deployed more than 14,000 officials across KArachi under contingency plan to counter any act of terrorism.
KARACHI:
The police have deployed more than 14,000 officials across the city under a contingency plan to counter any act of terrorism on the eve of Eidul Fitr.
These officials are meant to provide additional security alongside the police commandos who have been deployed at all mosques, imambargahs, shopping centres, markets, parks, beaches, government and private buildings, offices, airports, railway stations and bus stands.
In a report submitted to Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Mirza, the Karachi police stated that a contingency plan had been developed especially for Eid, in which priority areas had been identified and a strategy had been put in place to prevent “acts of lawlessness”.
A central control room has been set up at the Capital City Police Office (CCPO) to monitor the situation round the clock.
The control room, which can be reached at 021-99213081, is being updated with the latest reports from police stations across the city.
The Pakistan Rangers have been directed to coordinate with the Sindh police special branch to ensure strict security measures.
Additional security has been set up at all exit and entry points at public places to avert any attacks, while police patrolling has also been intensified and the intelligence network has been directed to provide reports in advance.
Plainclothes policemen have been deputed in different areas as part of the intelligence strategy.
The police have also been directed to ensure that vehicles are parked at a distance from the congregation places.
The Sindh home minister has directed the police to ensure that law-abiding citizens do not face any inconvenience while the security steps are being implemented.
Strict action will be taken if police officials are found harassing citizens, he added.
