72 students participate in regional competitions
Winners will compete for the Allama Iqbal Shield 2012 in the national competition.
ISLAMABAD:
Seventy-two contests from 31 public and private Punjab universities participated in the 15th Punjab Region Inter-University Debate Contest.
The top three winners in English and Urdu contests were given cash prizes and shields and with the top scoring team and one overall winner in the English and Urdu debate contests qualified for the final round of All Pakistan Inter University debate contest.
They will compete for the Allama Iqbal Shield 2012 in the national competition. The first, second, and third positions in English debating contest were secured by Ahmed Nadir from UET Taxila, Umar Khayam from PMAS-Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi and Safia Zia from the University of Gujrat respectively.
In the Urdu debating contest first, second, and third positions were won by Hamza Hameed Tarar from the University of the Punjab (UoP), Salman Tariq from the UoP and Talah Wali from UET Lahore respectively.
Mian Mujtaba Shujaur Rahman, provincial minister for excise and taxation/education and literacy Punjab, was the chief guest.
