Missing persons’ issue: PCNS to finalise draft legislation next week

Committee has made recommendations that are easily implementable, says Senator Rabbani.

ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS) is set to finalise the draft legislation on the issue of missing persons next week, according to the committee’s chairperson, Senator Raza Rabbani.

The committee has made recommendations that are easily implementable, Senator Rabbani told journalists after the committee’s meeting in Islamabad on Saturday.

The final draft would be formulated in the next meeting after receiving recommendations from the Mutthahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and the Balochistan National Party, he added.

Senator Rabbani said the committee would make public its final recommendations by next week and would also share it with the media.

“There are more than 10 recommendations on the issue of missing persons that have been formulated in light of Parliament’s resolutions on missing persons,” he added. “The opinions of families of missing persons have also been incorporated in the recommendations”.

Responding to a question, Senator Rabbani said the “doctrine” of the military was also discussed in subsequent meetings; however, further discussion on such and other security-related issues would be discussed in the next meeting.
