Take to the skies in aviator jackets

One of autumn/winter’s hottest trends has been nailed by Burberry’s Creative Director Christopher Bailey.

One of autumn/winter’s hottest trends has been nailed by Burberry’s Creative Director Christopher Bailey, who dug into the Burberry archives to revive a classic piece — the aviator jacket. It has been one of the hot sellers  for Burberry and  high-street retailers that have produced their own cheaper versions.

The look reminds one of Katherine Hepburn from the 1933 film Christopher Strong. It was a time when Hepburn was seen as one of the most liberated women of her era and had a great air of feminism about her. In the movie she played a female pilot. The 1980s hit Top Gun featured the film’s cast pairing jackets with the now iconic aviator sunglasses.

The aviator look is a classic trend with a tailoring twist. It is a replacement for the biker jacket and it works brilliantly with everything. Since layering is a key theme this autumn/winter, this is definitely your ‘go to’ piece.

It has been reworked in every imaginable way, shape and weight. Channel your inner Amelia Earhart  and get your hands on a jacket.
