PESHAWAR:
Strict security measures have been adopted at all entry points of Peshawar for Chehlum processions of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) today (Thursday).

The main procession will come out from imambargah Akhunabad at around 2pm and will proceed on its traditional routes, going through Sabzimandi and Kuchi Bazar where it will merge into another procession from Kucha Risaldar at Qissa Khawani Bazaar. It will end before Isha prayers at around 5:30pm.

“With the help of the civic body and police officials, we have made satisfactory security arrangements. We will seal all entry points into Peshawar city particularly at Kohati Gate, Yakatoot, Chowk Yadgar and Qissa Khawani Bazaar,” the media coordinator of the Imamia Organisation, Ali Haider told The Express Tribune. He further said that more than 400 volunteers are helping the police personnel in security duties.

Several small processions were taken out from various imambargahs ahead of the grand procession on Wednesday and attended by a large number of mourners. They started from imambargah Syed Lal Shah at Mohalla Hussainia at around 2:30pm and ended on 5:30pm at imambargah Sargaran in Mohallah Sayedan.

The mourners, on their way, were holding emblems and recited poems in honour of the sacrifices made in Karbala. Security duties were performed jointly by the police and volunteers of Imamia Students Organisation, Mukhtar Force and Imamia Organisation. Strict checking of vehicles and passersby was made at all entry and exit points of the city.

Business activities were also halted as most shops and markets were closed down in the inner parts of the city.
