KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has “conditionally” allowed the authorities to continue the recruitment process of police constables. However, the final appointment letters to successful candidates will not be issued without the court’s permission.
On Tuesday, Justice Munib Akhtar, who headed the division bench, issued the temporary stay order on a petition challenging recruitments to the post of police constables in BPS 5 allegedly in violation of rules and regulations.
Waseem Ahmed and others submitted they had applied for the posts of police constables announced by the Karachi police. They passed the physical and written tests but their appointment letters were not issued. Instead, fresh recruitment was notified by the authorities, which was illegal and in violation of the services rules and regulations.
The petitioners appealed to the court to declare the new recruitment advertisement illegal and call the entire record of recruitments while declaring the petitioners successful.
After the initial hearing, the bench issued notices to the Sindh home secretary, Karachi police chief, the DIG Administration and the SP West Zone for January 18.
Till next date the recruitment process, as per the impugned advertisement dated December 9, 2012, may continue but it shall remain subject to review by the court, the judges ordered.
