Tennis: Li cruises into 2nd round in China
Li coasted to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over her Luxembourger opponent.
Chinese top seed Li Na moved into the second round at the Shenzhen Open, with a straight-sets win over Mandy Minella yesterday, according to Sportal.
Li coasted to a 6-4, 6-0 victory over her Luxembourger opponent, while fellow Chinese player Peng Shuai, the sixth seed, thrashed Japan’s Ayumi Morita 6-1, 6-1. In more good news for the locals Zhou Yi-Miao accounted for American qualifier Jessica Pegula 6-4, 6-2, however Duan Ying-Ying was not as fortunate — with the wildcard going down to Serbian eighth seed Bojana Jovanovski 6-3, 6-1.
There were multiple seeded casualties, however, with Su-Wei Hsieh (four) and Laura Robson (seven) bowing out of the WTA International event. Hsieh was humbled 6-3, 6-0 by Germany’s Annika Beck, while Robson was no match for Romania’s Monica Niculescu 6-2, 6-3. Czech fifth seed Klara Zakopalova escaped the carnage, with a 6-4 6-3 victory over Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina.
