QUETTA: At least 13 people were killed and 25 others sustained injuries when a Karachi-bound passenger coach overturned near Uthal in Lasbela district on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident took place in Piprani area of Uthal town when a passenger coach overturned due to over-speeding. Thirteen people died on the spot while 25, including women and children, suffered multiple injuries.

Police squad and rescue workers rushed to the spot soon after being informed about the incident and took the bodies and those injured to the District Headquarters Hospital in Uthal.

Some of the injured are stated to be in a critical condition.

Those who died in the accident were identified as Faiz Al dine, Ali Khan, Shaukat Ali, Hyder Ali, Akhtiar, Muhabat Khan, Mohammad Rahim, Athah Mohammad.

The names of the rest of the deceased could not be ascertained.

“The majority of the victims belonged to interior Sindh and were going to celebrate Eid,” Dr Hakim Lasi of District Headquarters Hospital told The Express Tribune.

“The incident took place due to over-speeding,” a police official said. The official added that investigations are underway while the bodies have been shifted to their ancestral town.
