ISLAMABAD:

In what was a proud moment for students and their parents, 550 graduates and postgraduates were awarded degrees on the seventh convocation of Riphah International University held at Jinnah Convention Centre on Saturday.

Thirteen Zulfiqar Gold Medals and 16 Chancellor’s Gold Medals were awarded to high-scoring students in various fields including Health, Medical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Management Sciences, Engineering and Media Sciences.

“This is the happiest moment in my life for which I have struggled throughout the year and finally the day has come. I’m so excited to receive a gold medal,’’said Mahwish Javed, a postgraduate in Media Sciences.

“It’s like a dream come true and I don’t have the words to express myself,” said Hafiz Arslan after he was awarded the Chancellor’s gold medal in MSc Mathematics. I can never forget the contribution of my teachers and parents and the credit goes to them as well, he added.

Former chairman of the Higher Education Commission, Dr Attaur Rehman, who was the chief guest, congratulated the students. “You have fantastic opportunities, take up research and distinguish yourself in your respective field,’’ he urged. Rehman said new discoveries were coming up across the world and Pakistani students must become a part of these discoveries. Since 2003, over 5,000 students have completed their PhDs, he informed the audience.
