Record breaking: Pakistan to plant 0.75m mangrove trees

ISLAMABAD:
In order to check soil erosion, protect the ecosystem and mitigate effects of climate change, Pakistan is preparing to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) of planting 0.75 million mangrove trees in a single day.

The plantation, to be done along the coastalline in Sindh, will be undertaken in the upcoming month of March 2013. Unlike in India, where plantations are done with the help of naval authorities, the mangroves plantation in Pakistan would be done by social workers and volunteers.

In 2010, India had set a new record by planting 0.55 million mangroves, breaking an earlier record of 0.545 million mangrove plantations made by Pakistan in the year 2009.
