MUMBAI:

It may be hard to believe for his fans, but Rohit Roy, one of the most known faces on the tube, is currently unemployed and says that he is looking for work opportunities.

“I have no job right now. I am being honest that I have absolutely no work on television,” Rohit, known for his work in TV shows like Swabhimaan and Viraasat and movie Shootout At Lokhandwala, told IANS.

“People think I am doing films, so I don’t want to act on the small screen, which is why I am not called for a lot of stuff. Seriously, maybe you can spread the word and tell people, ‘Give him a job!’,” added the 43-year-old.

He doesn’t mind being honest about his assignment status.

“I am a jobless actor as we speak! I don’t believe in making statements like I am reading a script. I am seriously out of job,” he said.

When asked whether he would be interested in hosting a reality show again, he said, “I am not very comfortable with the kind of reality programmes that exist, especially on lifestyle and music channels. I am not for these kind of abusive reality shows,” said Rohit, who hosted two seasons of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

He is aware of the popularity of such shows, but added: “There is a large audience in urban India who is enjoying these shows. It’s a free country, but personally, I don’t subscribe to such shows.”

Rohit’s elder brother Ronit is also a popular name on TV and rose to fame with shows like Kasautii Zindagii Kay, Kyunki... Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi... and Adaalat and the former feels the new generation of actors do not shine like senior actors did on small screen.

“Young crop of actors are good, but there is no star which I have seen. I do not say this in a condescending manner, I would love to see stars the way there were when we were there,” he said.

“There is one Ronit Roy and one Ram Kapoor. Girls are talented and fantastic to look at, but there is no one like Smriti Irani and Sakshi Tanwar. With the new lot, you don’t see stars being born with any show,” Rohit said.

Asked if there has ever been sibling rivalry between him and his elder brother, the actor says Ronit has always been a father figure to him.

“Ronit is more like my father, although he is not too old, just four years elder than me. There was a time when I was ruling the roost on television and he had no work, but there was never a feeling that, ‘Oh god! My younger brother is doing well’,” said Rohit.
