Energy for all: ‘Govt committed to cheap electricity’

$2.6 billion dollars will be spent on the projects, which are to be completed in four years, says WAPDA chairman.

ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Development Authority Chairman Syed Raghib Abbas Shah has said that the government is committed to providing cheap electricity to consumers. “Power prices will come down in the country after completion of ongoing energy projects,” he said while talking to Pakistan Television. He appreciated the recently-signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on hydropower projects signed between Pakistan and Korea, adding that the projects will produce 1,160 megawatts of additional electricity. He said that $2.6 billion dollars will be spent on the projects, which are to be completed in four years. Korean Ambassador Choong Joo Choi, while speaking on the occasion, said that the MoU signed by the two countries will be good for Pakistan’s future. He said that Korea wants strong economic and trade relations with Pakistan, adding that his country is also interested in wind energy projects in Pakistan.
