KARACHI:
Muslim FC ended defending champions KRL’s winning run in the Pakistan Premier Football League with a 1-0 win in Chaman yesterday, while KESC thrashed Wohaib FC 5-0 in Karachi.

Muslim FC, who are playing their second season in the league, impressed the home crowd as they brought down KRL with Muhammad Dawood’s goal in the 43rd minute of the match.

According to Dawood, who has been with the club for five years now, the win validated their place among the best clubs in the country.

“We didn’t expect to win this match,” Dawood told The Express Tribune. “KRL is the best club in the country. Every other team wants to beat them because they have the best players. But winning a match at home makes it even more special as we performed the way the crowd was expecting us to.”

Meanwhile, the result came as a shock to KRL who have won 18 out of their 23 matches in the league and drawn four. Despite the defeat, KRL dominated the league with 58 points after 23 matches, while Muslim FC remained at fifth place with 50 points, missing out on the fourth spot due to KESC’s win over Wohaib FC. Mohammad Rasool’s hat-trick against Wohaib FC helped the team to move to third position, replacing Army on the fourth.

KESC have 51 points on the table after 24 matches, as they left Army behind with their goal difference, while Wohaib FC continued at the bottom with eight points after 25 matches.

In another match, HBL drew against PMC Athletico in a goalless draw at the Peoples Stadium in Karachi.
