‘Bogus degree’: LHC issues notice to PML-N MNA
Petitioner asked the court to disqualify Riaz from the National Assembly on the basis of Article 63.
LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notices to PML-N MNA Malik Riaz and others for January 30 on a petition challenging the parliamentarian’s educational qualification. The petitioner, identified only as Yousaf, claimed that the MNA had contested the 2008 elections from NA-118 on the basis of a forged degree from Azad Jammu and Kashmir University. At the time, candidates running for National Assembly or provincial assembly seats were required to have a bachelor’s degree. The petitioner said that the university, acting on instructions from the Higher Education Commission, had conducted an inquiry and found the MNA’s supposed degree to be bogus. The petitioner asked the court to disqualify Riaz from the National Assembly on the basis of Article 63 of the Constitution. Our Correspondent
