Wapda shine on day two of National Games

Last year’s silver medallists top the table with 10 golds.

KARACHI:
Wapda continued their dominance on the second day of the 32nd National Games in Lahore with 10 gold medals while Sindh finished second with six golds.

Wapda’s Mohammad Sabir took the first position in the four-kilometer cycling individual pursuit men’s event. Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) Ahsan Abbas secured second place while Punjab’s Mohammad Shakeel bagged bronze. Similarly, Wapda’s Raheela Bano clinched gold in the three-kilometer cycling individual pursuit women’s event, while HEC’s Asama took silver and Pakistan Railways Fiza secured the third position.

Wapda also won the four-kilometer cycling team pursuit men’s event while HEC came second and Railways secured a bronze. Meanwhile, Wapda’s women cyclists bagged the gold medal in the three-kilometer team pursuit event and HEC came in second. Punjab won the bronze medal.

In the swimming events, Sindh’s Rida Mitha won two golds — one in the 100-m freestyle competition and the other in the 100-m butterfly event while Soha Sanjrani won the gold medal in the =+400m individual medley. In team events, Sindh outclassed Wapda and Punjab in the 4x200 freestyle relay competition.


Wapda again came to the fore in the shooting events where it won both gold and silver with Sindh claiming bronze in the 50-m prone rifle individual competition.

But it was Punjab that dominated the women’s shooting events and HEC took silver and bronze in the event. HEC won gold in the 10-m Air Pistol men’s team event.

Sindh won the skeet team event while Punjab bagged silver and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa secured bronze.
