RAWALPINDI:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench has suspended the Punjab Higher Education Department’s notification banning private students from sitting exams of science subjects at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) level.

The order was issued by Justice Ali Baqir Najafi while hearing a petition filed by the Private School Management Association. Justice Najafi stayed the notification and adjured the case till January 7, 2013.

The notification was issued by Punjab Higher Education Department secretary back in 2004, banning students of private schools that had not been recognised or affiliated with relevant government departments from appearing in SSC science exams. Following the notification, the Rawalpindi Board of

The association had maintained in the petition filed on December 20 that the notification is discriminatory and a violation of basic human rights as it deprives certain students from getting the education of their choice.

CAA’s case against NLC

In another case, the same bench summoned the regional director of National Logistic Cell (NLC) in court on December 24 to respond to a petition by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) seeking retrieval of its land from the NLC.

CAA had filed the petition in October this year, seeking to retrieve 52.65 kanals of its land that the NLC had acquired near Rawal Road Rawalpindi without any formal agreement. The authority had requested the court to retrieve its land as well as the monthly rents that the NLC owes it.

The authority’s counsel maintained that NLC must pay the initially agreed rate of Rs6.6 million for every month that it kept the land in its possession.
