The series, which heralds a revival for international cricket in Pakistan, was approved by India earlier this year.
Soon after news of the series broke, Shiv Sena announced it would not let Pakistan play in India.
The party had said that Pakistan is responsible for the 2008 Mumbai carnage and it would not be allowed to play in the country.
In October, India’s cricket board secured government clearance to host Pakistan for a short tour in December.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited Pakistan to play three one-dayers and two Twenty20 matches in December-January, the first bilateral contests between the arch-rivals in five years.
The rivals have not played a series since Pakistan’s tour of India in 2007, after cricket ties were snapped following the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai.
The Indian and Pakistani cricket teams have only met in international tournaments since 2007.

@Deb; India:
In India there are no guns in the civil society. The Shiv sena or for that matter common people like you and me are neither trained nor armed to take a combatant position against Terrorist with assault weapons. It is the job of the Police to counter such a situation. The Mumbai police however was completey ill prepared in terms of guns or training to tackle the situation. Even then they tried their best with 303 rifes of 50 years old design, and in doing so a lot of them laid down their lives. If the Mumbai police comprising of Mostly maharashtrians had MP5 machine guns and Body armour like the nsg commandos there would have been a fair fight. Please dont expect civil member or Shiv sena to jump into a hostage situation like 26/11.
@J.Sandhu
'you have no idea of the mass support the sena can generate......here comes people power.' Remember 26/11? Where was this 'mass support' and the 'people power' when the city was held hostage for 72 hrs? The truth is Thackrey, with his real son (Udhvav) and spiritual son (Raj) was hiding in a rat hole just like Saddam Hussein and OBL. Do not seek safety in false bravado of the megalomaniacs. Emotions can never move a grain of sand, logic can move mountains. Grow up. Though I doubt, if you will.
you have no idea of the mass support the sena can generate. There will be no matches.All you selfish people who only want to be entertained, get ready to forfiet your ticket money because here comes prople power.
@Omar:
So What Do you expect from us? a red carpet for terrorists? You are terrorist and yes your mentality, your views confirm it that pakis are terrorists.
Shiv sena never sent men to kill public in Pakistan.
Protest against terrorists is not a terrorism, nor showing anger over Pakistanis called terrorism.
@Adnan: What about ‘state terrorism’ and the 80,000 innocent Kashmiri civilians murdered by the occupying Indian army? What about the thousands of muslims murdered in your own country in Gujrat by your ‘rising political star’ Narendra Modi?
You forgot to add another 100000 pandits driven out of Kashmir and another 50,000 killed in the process. Does your heart not beat for nonmuslims?? Are you a human being or muslim first??? My answer to you will depend on this! The current events in Pakistan society are because people consider themselves muslims before human beings!!! Respect will therefore never be given to those who identify by religion even if you demand.
I will not list thousands of shias killed in the last two years and another quarter million wiped out??? I will not list why the percentage of hindus has come down by millions after 1947 in Pakistan: is it either forcible conversion (shameful) or mass murders unreported?? I will not humilate you by asking about 100000 bengali women raped in 1971!!! Lastly I will also not humiliate you about Hafeez Saaed Bhai or Dawood Bhai or OBL!!!
This list will go on and on and you will never be able to answer. More muslims have been killed in Pakistan in the last 4 years than those killed in India in last 60 years!! You talk of muslim rights??? Are you born special??? or did god give you divine judgement skills??
Self Humiliation is the best form of introspection. I will let you do that.
@Adnan:
"What about ‘state terrorism’ and the 80,000 innocent Kashmiri civilians murdered by the occupying Indian army? What about the thousands of muslims murdered in your own country in Gujrat by your ‘rising political star’ Narendra Modi?"
The fact is that in the last two plus decades 40000 people have been killed in Kashmir with Indian security personnel and Pak sponsored terrorists and innocents killed by the terrorists amounting to 38000. The rest of 2000 were killed by cross fire or for committing vandalism.
As for Gujarat riots, 750 muslims and 250 Hindus were killed. This riot was provoked by a Muslim mob who burned alive about 70 Hindu pilgrims at Ghodhra in a train. Modi did not kill anyone though he can be faulted for not efficiently controlling an uncontrollable riot.
@Bushra Syed: " ... Just want to share one thing. It’s all a big great politics of Pakistan-India Hatred in our countries. Neither of them hate each other, at least as much as it is being exposed. ... "
Contrary to what you think we do not let our politicians form our opinions - our politicians take their cues from us. We do not hate Pakistanis, we are apprehensive of your non-state actors and the wink-wink support they get from many quarters in Pakistan.
@Observer: @Alex: By OBL I presume you mean Obama Bin Laden, the geatest terrorist in the world whose 'kill list' and 'signature' drone strikes target and kill innocent men women and children in the border regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan?
What about 'state terrorism' and the 80,000 innocent Kashmiri civilians murdered by the occupying Indian army? What about the thousands of muslims murdered in your own country in Gujrat by your 'rising political star' Narendra Modi?
Stop using fake names to hide your Indian nationailty although if I were a citizen of that country, I would be ashamed to admit it too!
@Gratgy:
"In your dictionary digging up a pitch is a violent act? While shooting and throwing grenades at a visiting team is not???? Personally I would rather have someone digging up pitches than throwing grenades and bombs at people"
a simple reply to your comment, those who attacked sri lankan team were terrorists and the whole of Pakistan calls them terrorists, would you call your indian shiv sena terrorists too?!!!
@Omar:
"And they call Pakistani’s the “extremists”. India should clean their own house first before commenting on Hafeez Saeed"
Wow! You compare Hafiz Saeed who sends terrorists to Mumbai to butcher innocent civilians with a civil protest by an Indian party? You have to hold on to your obscurantist comparison until Shiv Sena or other Indian outfits train, equip and send Indian terrorists to Karachi or Lahore with weapons to kill hundreds of civilians in restaurants, hospitals, train stations, hotels and streets.
@Introspection
If you are so touchy about Shiv Sena, which is merely exercising its freedom of expression in a democratic society, then you should not come to India. Pakistan has been begging India for over a year to resume cricket ties. Your PCB chairman made a number of visits to India before the BCCI agreed to it, though it was aware that this would unleash massive protests nationwide. I also donot agree with your wild and unfounded contention raising doubts about the "safety" of Pakistani cricketers in India. They are much more safe -- and better taken care of -- than foreign teams are in Pakistan. I recall the "love" and "affection" showered upon the Sri Lankan cricket team which was fired by terrorists, with the connivance of some army people, as they were being transported in a bus. It is an open secret that Pakistanis - not just cricketers but all holders of the wretched green passport --are not welcomed anywhere in the world, not just in India. They make people squirm when they see Pakistanis anywhere. Yes, there have been incidents of rape and crime in India, like in any other society, but the difference between India and Pakistan is that India severely punishes perpetrators of such heinous crimes while Pakistani mass killers and rapists of Bengali women in the 1971 massacre were running free in the country. One also wonders how the mastermind of the Mumbai carnage, Mullah Hafeez Sayed, a known India-hater, can go around preaching his venom-filled gospel. In a civilized society, this would never happen. He would be put behind bars and face the severest punishment for the killings of innocents. Unfortunately, you live in a stone-age country where cave dwellers can kill at will and go scot free. So, dear whatever, look at your own ugly glass house before throwing stones at others.
Here in India nobody wants India & Pakistan matches. I never heard anybody talking abt it at ground level. This is all money minded people who wants this matches. There is no change in the reasons for which cricket is stopped. I and many here strongly beleive that Paksitan as nation can never be trusted. You have done lot of damage to Indians. The problem is Islam do not allow you to behave with others as humans. You are lebelling SS as terrorist But then wht abt your state of affairs abt minorities?? So please make your house in order. Allow others to take care abt their problems. Shivsena is in their right to protest but certainly they will not harm Pakies players. They are not that much mad, like yours..
Nobody should take these threats from SS seriously. They bark but don't bite since 1993. During all 72 hrs (26/11) when Bombay was held in ransom by 10 non-state actors from Mars, these SS guys and their leaders were conspicuously invisible within 100 km of Bombay suburbs. Nobody heard a word, sorry a murmur, from the great Thackrey or from his sainiks (read goons). The NSG commandos that came to rescue the city from the 10 god(!) send angels didn’t have one Marathi among them, never the less they were INDIANS. The point is don’t equate Thackrey with Marathis or Indians. India is larger than all of them. Do not pick on a fringe to malign the rest. And as someone up the thread has already mentioned,, do not draw a moral equivalence between digging a pitch and shooting at a bus transporting a foreign team, not that I would have been any less condemning if they were a local one,
@Maverick: This coming from nation known to host OBL...who are you kidding? You are worried about RSS? while hosting the most wanted rogues of the religious terrorism in your country????
@Faryal G: "Oh man and they call us terrorism supporters. Don’t remember the last time a religious party protested or dug up a pitch in Pakistan against India"
Well we do remember when 10 people from your country got on boats and came to ours and kiled civilians. Don't remember when the converse happened. We do remember when a visting cricketing team was shot at in your contry. DOn't remember when that ever happened in India.
Shiv Sena protesting by issuing press statements and taking out morchas is essence of democracy. It is better to display your disagreement in this non-violent way rather than kill people e.g. polio workers whom you disagree with.
@Gratgy: @Polpot:
The Indian trolls are coming out of the wood work: making inane comments and then ostensibly 'recommending' each other as if that would somehow raise the abysmal quality level of the content!
@Polpot: ++++++++++++++++++++++++
What are these crosses? The dug up cricket pitch which you and the other RSS fanatics are planning?
@Procastinator: Read your friend rp's comment. The poor man has tried to express the typical indian mentality in the simplest of 'angrezi' words he knew. The only difference between you (and others who think of themselves as liberals) is selecting the 'right' words in public- right enough not to show your true self!
@rp: Poor you!... you don't even know what to say i'm wondering what are you doing HERE?
See, Pakistani's have been deprived of so much from the democratic rule that the don't understand the principles of democracy till now. In democracy, everyone, even a minority of one, has right to free speech and right to protest to express their disagreement.
In India, "we would not let them do this" means: staging protests, blocking ways to the stadium, roads, not provide any support to the event etc.
In Pak, we would not let them do this means: throwing grenades on the event taking place and killing the people who participate and support the event
Now judge yourself to see who would be called an extremist!!!
Shame on ET for allowing this threatening comments. Will you allow similar comments posted by a Pakistani against head of Shiv Sena? No, definitely not & we all know why. It does not suit your editorial agenda. Lets see if u post my comment.
They have been playing 'lethal-destructive-spoilers' from time immemorial. They should really be addressing the core Indian problems of today, rather than playing 'spoil-sports'!
India today is terminally Rape-stricken, Poverty-stricken, Divorce-stricken, Mental-Depression-stricken, Suicide-stricken, Corruption-stricken…and trust me, this ain’t no Bollywood illusion and or delusion…and no magician’s slight of hand trick either…It’s real, and is happening in India…! Right now!
Shiv Sena's loyalty and claim to India is really at stake now, if they fail to eradicate these fast metastasizing-malignancies, quickly, and effectively...!!!
Just want to share one thing. It's all a big great politics of Pakistan-India Hatred in our countries. Neither of them hate each other, at least as much as it is being exposed.
When away from their countries, Indians and Pakistanis are the best of friends. India-Pakistan cricket series should be supported.
Love for all, Hatred for none.
@muhammadkashifkhan ... yes, they haven't yet send any warrior to pakistan, still every pakistani newspaper and reader like you fear about them even sitting thousands of miles away. BTW, you might be knowing more about aurangazeb, afzal khan. i am not SS supporter, but my ancestors served in shivaji's army in konkan. and i am proud of that.
@Omar: Yes, they only protest but they do not go further like in Pakistan. Need we remind you what happened to Srilankan cricketers.Instead of worrying about what India says, you should worry about what the world is saying about your country. This is a second grade news in India-which is a headline news in your country--just says how desperate Pakistan is to tour India. Every sane guys knows which country is so desperate to tour India!! Pakistanis need to look at their society before they comment others.
These protests are OK , though stupid. However they should protest outside the stadium and do it peacefully. They can carry banners and shout slogans but not burn any flag, destroy any property or indulge in any violence. This would not be as stupid and stooping down to the low and shameful level as that of the Pakistan team who take pride in converting the entire cricket stadium to an open mosque and their captain leading the team for prayer in the middle of the ground. Never saw Saudi soccer players performing such rituals when they play international games in other countries or even in their own country. Can't the Pakistan team not do their prayers in their locker rooms. Oh No !!!!!! They want to advertise to the world how much of a muslims they are in the most ridiculous way. PCB should look into this ritual.
26\11 is shame that Pakistani brings with it they have not hanged Hafiz Sayeed if they cant we are planning to kill him .... either he flee country or he will b eliminated
@faisal shivsena=shivaji (medieval king) 's army is a marathi regional party they can't do much .
@Faryal G
In your dictionary digging up a pitch is a violent act? While shooting and throwing grenades at a visiting team is not????
Personally I would rather have someone digging up pitches than throwing grenades and bombs at people
@Faryal G: "Oh man and they call us terrorism supporters." +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Oh man you have my sympathies. So unfair are the accusations:). BTW who was OBL? A captain of a cricket team?
So from not going to let Pak play to will protest the match. Mighty Shiv Sena would be no where when the actual match start, may be protesting in Mumbai when match being played in Bangaloro :)
@Faryal G: 'Surprising how Pakistan is maligned for everything while when other countries do the same, they go unnoticed'.
Ask the balance of over 6.5 billion people in the world and they will all have the same answer. Dare you ask?
Oh man and they call us terrorism supporters. Don't remember the last time a religious party protested or dug up a pitch in Pakistan against India. Surprising how Pakistan is maligned for everything while when other countries do the same, they go unnoticed.
And they call Pakistani's the "extremists". India should clean their own house first before commenting on Hafeez Saeed
