Four students were injured on Thursday in a shootout between two student groups at Bahauddin Zakariya University’s Dera Ghazi Khan campus. The injured were taken to district headquarters hospital, where doctors said they would likely survive.
Police said Allah Bakhsh Leghari, Hameed Leghari and Mustafa Leghari of the Baloch Students Organisation (BSO) had an argument with Tahir Buzdar, Hameed Gul Buzdar and Muhammad Iqbal Mastawi of the Muslim Students Federation (MSF). The argument led to a fight between them and more students from both sides joined. They said one of the students fired several shot in the air which was followed by an exchange of fire between the two groups. Tahir Buzdar, Hameed Gul Buzdar, Muhammad Iqbal Mastawi and an unidentified student were injured in the shooting.
The police were informed and ordered the students and staff to evacuate the campus in an hour.
The injured were taken to the DHQ hospital, where they were later reported to be out of danger.

Hameed Gul Buzdar and Tahir Buzdar later told police that some outsiders had entered the classroom they were in and started firing. They said the men shouted slogans in support of Balochistan.
“All they said was Balochistan, Balochistan,” they told the police at the hospital. Talking to the police, Awami Tehreek-i-Inqilab Chairman Zubair Ahmed Bhatti alleged that the Khosa leaders in the area had facilitated the attack on BSO students by the MSF. He said that the BSO students were attending an event at the university when “they were told to leave and later attacked”.
