JI calls protests ‘undemocratic’

JI Karachi chief Birjees Ahmed says protests and closure of shops dishonour legal institutions.

KARACHI:

Protest demonstrations and forced closure of shops on a contempt of court notice corresponds to an ‘undemocratic mindset’ and such tactics dishonour legal institutions, said Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi acting chief Birjees Ahmed on Monday.

“Why can’t the chief of a party appear before the court when the country’s prime minister and federal interior minister have done so,” asked Ahmed, adding that Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s chief Altaf Hussain should not portray himself as someone who is exempted from accountability.
