LAHORE:

The city government has not backtracked on a plan to rename Fawara Chowk after Bhagat Singh, said an official on Monday.

District Officer (Special Planning) Umme Laila Naqvi said that the renaming had been challenged in court, so it had been put on hold.

A press release from the DCO office on Thursday stated the Dilkash Lahore Committee had recommended that Shadman Chowk be renamed after poet Habib Jalib. Naqvi said that this was a typo. She said that Shadman Chowk referred to the intersection of Jail Road and Shadman’s Main Boulevard, which the committee had suggested be renamed after writer Ashfaq Ahmed. The road from Shadman Chowk to Fawwara Chowk was to be renamed after Habib Jalib.
