Probe begins: Two FIRs registered
10 bodies were shifted to Combined Military Hospital by the army for DNA tests, says Police.
PESHAWAR:
The army has handed over the bodies of militants to the police for a post-mortem, officials have begun investigations into the attack on Bacha Khan International Airport.
Two FIRs have been registered at Pishtakahara police station under acting SHO Zubair Ali. The first is regarding the attack on the airport on Saturday while the second pertains to following attacks at a nearby village on Sunday.
A police official said 10 bodies were shifted to Combined Military Hospital by the army for DNA tests. They were then handed back to the police after which they were sent for post-mortems. He added that some bodies had been reduced to pieces.
The police official said SSP Investigation Sajid Mohmand has been appointed the head of the committee for probing the matter.
“The big question is how these people managed to get so far with their explosive-laden bags, AK-47 rifles and large vehicles without being noticed,” said the official. He added that insufficient intelligence reports were also to blame for the mayhem.
Police have said not all the attackers were of foreign origin. They claim that local militants were also among those killed on Sunday. However, they added it is still premature to give further details.
The army and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) will carry out parallel investigations and have formed their own committees.
