PESHAWAR:

Around 3,000 primary and secondary schoolchildren from five agencies of Federally Administered Tribal areas participated in an art competition on Monday.

The schools, which are being funded by the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), included 92 schools from Bajaur, 69 from Mohmand, 18 from Orakzai, 56 from Kurram and 15 from South Waziristan.

The activity was conducted in three categories. The first category consisted of second and third graders, the second category of fourth and fifth graders and the third category for girls of secondary school. A total of 12 contestants were selected from each school. The participants were provided art materials to showcase their creativity on sheets of paper.

The 10 lucky winners were given cash prizes. The first prize comprised a cash prize of Rs10,000 along with an art kit, while the second and third prizes comprised cash prizes of Rs6,000 and Rs3,000 respectively.

“Due to WFP’s extensive and practical approach, many poverty-ridden factions are experiencing some semblance of a normal existence,” WFP Country Director Jean-Luc Siblot said, adding that such activities help these children express and display their hidden talents. The winners are:  Hina Rukhsar, Razia Bibi, Bushra Bibi, Laiba, Saeed Ullah, Kanwal Masih, Ihsan Ali, Aysha, Abdul Qayyum Khan and Sahiba Gul.
