20 years on: Dr Chishti returns home

Dr Khalil Chishti returned from New Delhi and reached his home in Karachi on Sunday night.

KARACHI:
Dr Khalil Chishti returned from New Delhi and reached his home in Karachi on Sunday night, days after the Indian Supreme Court repealed his conviction in a murder case.

“My father has safely reached home, though we feel that he has weakened over the 40 days he spent in India for the case,” said Shoa Jawaid, Dr Chishti’s daughter.

The 82-year-old microbiologist was arrested and charged with murder in 1992 when a clash took place in Ajmer. Chishti had been in Ajmer to attend a family wedding at the time. He was convicted in 2010.
