Clearing the air: ‘Kalabagh Dam was proposed during Zia’s regime’
Mazharul Haq responds to Pir Pagara that the project was proposed during General Ziaul Haq’s rule in 1984.
KARACHI:
A day after Pir Pagara claimed at a large public gathering in Hyderabad that the Kalabagh Dam was proposed when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was in power, Sindh Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq responded by saying that the project was proposed during General Ziaul Haq’s rule in 1984.
“Ziaul Haq’s political student, Nawaz Sharif, then announced its construction in the Punjab Assembly when he was chief minister of the province,” he said.
While taking a swipe at the public gathering organised by the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, Haq said that the people of Sindh, excluding members of the Pir Pagara-led Hur Jamaat, did not attend the gathering.
